Taking Care of your Teak
Teak furniture if left outside without any finish will gradually turn a light silver grey colour over time. You will begin to notice the "greying" after 3 months or so, depending upon the amount of sun and rain the furniture is subject to. The "greying" is only on the surface layer and can be removed by cleaning with soapy water and a poly-bristle scrub brush. If you wish to maintain the rich honey colour of your garden furniture, we recommend a product called Sikkens, this can be found in most hardware stores in New Zealand. It is not the cheapest product on the market, however, it does carry a long guarantee and saves you repeating the process year after year.
HQF Teak furniture can be left outside all year round, with a little care, it will be with you and your family for generations to enjoy. It is one of the hardest, strongest and most durable of all woods, highly resistant to rotting and almost impervious to the effect of sun, rain, frost or snow. These characteristics make it the ideal wood for outdoor furniture. We do recommend a cover over the furniture in the winter to save a cleaning job at the start of the Spring.

We do not oil our Teak, it arrives in it's natural form for a good reason. The Teak is super fine sanded and looks beautiful in it's natural state. We ask you to note that some manufacturers will try to disguise inferior grades of wood, by staining/oiling poor quality Teak/Kwila. Although still a hard wood, it contains very little natural oil and rubber which will often result in decay and rot. Low grade hardwood and especially Teak is an "insult" to the real thing and is best avoided at all costs.
